Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Where to Next (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is operated by Solver Works Limited, the data controller for the purposes of UK and EU data protection law. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have when you use our mobile application and website.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and Identity

When you create an account we collect your email address and date of birth (both stored in a private, owner-only area of your account), and your username (display name), first name, last name, and country (which form your public profile). You may also add a profile image. Your date of birth is used to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement (see Section 9); we do not display it to other users. If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email, or an Apple private relay email, as permitted by Apple. We also keep a record of the date and version of the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service you accepted, so we can show what you agreed to and when.

1.2 Content You Create and Import

1.3 Social Activity

If you use social features, we store your followers and the accounts you follow, the locations or profiles you share with other users, the public collections you create, and aggregate contribution statistics (your username and the number of places you have contributed) used for an optional leaderboard.

1.4 Location Data

With your permission, we access your device location to show nearby places. Location data is used to filter and sort content, and may be sent to Google to perform place search, geocoding, and mapping. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings.

1.5 Purchases

Subscriptions (“Pro”) are sold and processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We store your subscription status (entitlement) and the transaction identifiers needed to verify it and keep it up to date.

1.6 Technical and Diagnostic Information

This usage data is first-party analytics: it is stored in our own backend (see Section 4) and used only to operate, understand, and improve the app. We do not use third-party advertising trackers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not build advertising profiles or sell this data.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Automated Processing and AI

To turn a shared post into a saved place, we use automated systems, including third-party artificial intelligence services. The content of the post you share is processed to identify the place it refers to, to sort it into categories, and to help organise it (for example by suggesting a collection title or reading the details of an offer from a menu or flyer). Some text recognition runs entirely on your device; in that case only the extracted text is sent to our servers, and the underlying image or video is not uploaded or stored by us.

Information identified this way, and any text these systems generate (such as suggested categories, collection titles, and offer details), may be inaccurate or incomplete. It is provided for convenience and you should verify important details (such as opening hours, prices, and offers) before relying on them. These systems assist in organising information; they do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. See Section 11 for how this relates to AI transparency rules.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with service providers only as needed to operate the app, and only the minimum each provider needs for its role. We do not sell your personal data.

The providers that process your account and personal information are:

To identify and enrich the places you import, the shared content and place lookups are also handled by third-party mapping, place-data, and AI processing providers. These providers receive the content of the shared post and the related place queries, not your account or profile information. A current list of these providers is available on request.

These services act as our processors or as independent controllers and have their own privacy policies.

5. International Transfers

Some of our providers process data on servers located in the United States and other countries outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or the providers’ own approved transfer mechanisms.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud) servers and transmitted over HTTPS. Sensitive fields such as your email and date of birth are kept in an owner-only area of your account that other users cannot read. We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

7. Data Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes set out in this policy. In practice:

Where no fixed period applies, we determine retention based on the sensitivity of the data, the purpose it serves, and our legal obligations.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data. Subject to applicable law, these include the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your data, and the right to data portability. In particular you can:

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area and believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

9. Age Requirement

Where to Next is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the app or on our website, and by updating the date above.

11. AI Transparency

As explained in Section 3, we use automated and AI systems to identify places and to generate some text (such as suggested categories, collection titles, and offer details). Identifying a place from a post is an extraction step, not creative generation. You do not chat with or prompt these systems; they run in the background on the content you choose to share. Where content is generated or materially derived by AI, we aim to make that clear so you understand it may be automated and imperfect. We may add clearer in-app labelling of AI-derived content over time in line with applicable transparency rules.
